Developing creativity for well-rounded lives

"We use life experiences to teach, rather than solely what is bound in the pages of a book. We wish for our students to gain an overall experience and appreciation for art. Many types of media and/or manipulations can be used to create the unthinkable. The power of art is endless and lies at the feet of anyone who has the desire to produce or perform."

Students explore different modes of expression, visual and verbal, develop specific artistic skills, and learn how to perceive and respond to works of art. These art experiences provide for personal artistic expression, guide the student to improved aesthetic judgment and awaken him/her to more creative life choices.

"The art curriculum is based on the philosophy that every student is an individual with the right to develop his/her potential to the fullest extent of his/her capacity. The courses are designed to encourage the student’s personal development, to put the student in touch with his/her artistic heritage, and to provide the student with opportunities to study the way art functions in society. Students explore different modes of expression, visual and verbal, develop specific artistic skills, and learn how to perceive and respond to works of art. These art experiences provide for personal artistic expression, guide the student to improved aesthetic judgment and awaken him/her to more creative life choices."

Art Table Covers

We are grateful to the family of Dan Emerick '77 who donated table tops for the BWHS art room. Dan passed away over the summer and his family graciously donated the table tops, worth $1,500, to replace the very worn ones.
